M.C.E.P. CAVE DISCOVERIES

From May 11 to May 23,  exploration, science and documentation continued in Sistema Ox Bel Ha, and the caves of the Sian Ka’an Biosphere. An ongoing collaboration between Centro Investigador del Sistema Acuífero de Quintana Roo (CINDAQ), Mexico Cave Exploration Project (MCEP) and Global Underwater Explorers (GUE) has facilitated the discovery and survey of 9,329 feet of new cave passage, the survey of a 260 ft deep sinkhole, scientific collection, archaeological observation along with extensive photo and high definition video documentation.

With support from  The National Geographic Society,  The Waitt Institute for Discovery, The Nature Conservancy and Alltournative SA de CV, along with ongoing collaboration with McMaster University and The Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), future efforts will remain focused on the documentation and understanding of the hydrological correlation between these two important karst regions.
